CLICKETY-CLACK: A POEM

My feet are good for walking and my mouth is good for talking and sometimes they say and do things I don’t want them to. There’s a time to walk away and there’s a time to stay. There’s a time for speaking aloud and a time for biting tongues. I’ve far from mastered timing, it’s always been a flaw of mine. I’ve stood still for too long and I’ve spoken too quickly, I’ve walked away too fast and held my tongue when it needed to be let go, but, I’ll keep trying to figure out when exactly I’m supposed to do what. It’s likely I’ll still be figuring out when to do what when I’m too old to remember what I was trying to do in the first place. It seems pointless to dwell on mistakes or to bask in glory of success, but it seems meaningful to at least make the effort to learn. I’ll be learning long beyond my final breaths but at least I’m trying. I’ll try today, try some more tomorrow much as I tried yesterday, in the meantime I wrote down some words and called them Clickety-Clack.

CLICKETY-CLACK

My feet go

Clickety-Clack

Pittety-Pat

Tippety-Tap

My words go

Tickety-Tack

Spittety-Spat

Slippety-Slap

My head knows

Don’t wanna go back

To aimless chitter-chat

And fake backslaps

Don’t want to know

My mind’s soundtrack

Trading tit for tat

Selling shit and buying crap

Cheap words on tip toes

Trying to see clear

Deep words in a false pose

Making the distant seem near

Doors open and doors close

Crowds boo and crowds cheer

Turn up your nose

At the thoughts I hold dear

My head knows

Don’t want to go back

To your false chitter chat

And shameless backslaps

So listen to my feet go

Clickety-Clack

Pittety-Pat

Tippety-Tap

Listen to my words go

Tickety-Tack

Spittety-Spat

Slippety-Slap
